Here comes another amnesty round! Oh, wow, and it's a round number! Thank you so much to everyone who has participated in any of our previous rounds! You make this community fun to run!

This amnesty round is going to last for 4 weeks. This means the deadline for this round is on Sunday October 4th at 11:59 EDT/EST! (countdown)

Amnesty Rules:

You can post icons for any of the previous color palettes.

Aside from the longer time span, the only other rule for amnesty challenges is that you are allowed to post as many icons as you like. You can do the normal 3 or you can post 333 if you find yourself inspired! You can either do separate posts for every palette or you can put several - or all of them - into one big post, it's up to you. If you do make more than 3, please post them behind a cut.

Please tag your posts with the original round number as well as "round: 200", and either copy the palette code or mention the palette name in your post. I know most of you've done this before, so I hope the rules are clear. If not, feel free to ask!

Amnesty Game: (optional)
It's almost become a tradition already: we're playing the amnesty game again!

If you can't decide which palettes to tackle, leave a comment on this post and ask for a number of palettes.

Anyone can reply and choose palettes for you. (If nobody does, I can choose for you. I'll give it until the weekend before I jump in.) You can agree to reciprocate/choose for each other, or just choose for someone and leave a request comment for the next person. There is absolutely no pressure/requirement attached to this game. If you run out of time/muse or the palettes simply don't speak to you, there are no negative consequences. Just see it as another source of inspiration! The game is entirely optional.

If you have any other questions or suggestions for this comm, you can also comment here, I'm all ears.

HERE are the palettes from our first 20 challenges,
HERE are 20-40,

Haven't posted in a while. I know I say that pretty much every time I post, and I'm just struggling to get back into any kind of posting pattern. Work has continued to be pretty busy, and when I get home I just want to be lazy and not put any effort into anything. I've been having some depressive episodes lately. Greg and I went to Michigan for a few days a couple weeks ago. For about the past month, my afternoons and early evenings have been spent helping with flood recovery. I live in the Ravenswood neighborhood, which was one of the areas hit hardest by the flooding in Indianapolis on August 15th. I am fine and my house is fine; the flooding didn't reach my block. But a lot of my neighbors lost everything, so I have been doing what I can to help with cleanup, organizing donations, and whatever is needed to help with recovery. That has often left me too tired in the evenings to do much more than shower and go to bed. I might talk some more about that in a later entry. And due to the flooding I was without internet for two straight weeks.

I'll also catch up on the garden posts. I really wanted to be more timely with those this year. I have pictures for August 1st and August 15th, I just need to post them. I didn't take any for September 1st, because at this point the garden is slowing down so I think I can go back to just once a month and do a post for September 15th instead.

But in this entry I'm going to talk about books. You may have noticed (or not) that I haven't posted a monthly roundup in a while. I have been in a serious reading slump all summer, but I have managed to read some things. The plan is to make a big summer round-up, so I'll be working on that.

August was the month of DNFs, and I can't decide if I really just started a bunch of duds in a row, or if I've just been too tired/distracted/impatient to give these books the attention they deserve. But there are two new books I bought recently that I tore through in just a couple days, so the takeaway is that when I'm excited to read a book, I should probably just read it instead of sticking it at the bottom of the TBR pile to get to whenever I get to it.

I let all my e-books I had borrowed from the library lapse. I need a reset there because it's just been one disappointment after another, and I don't know if that's the fault of the books or me just getting tired of reading on my phone. I might go back to just borrowing one at a time; I think part of the problem is that I always had four or five books sitting in my Libby app and lately seeing them all just makes me tired. Especially when I'm not enjoying one or more of them but feel compelled to slog through a few chapters just to "earn" some time with a book I actually like. I don't know why I'm like this. I just need to be better at DNFing. I also want to clean out my tags on Libby and just remove books that are not sparking my interest. A lot of them have been on there for years, because I keep adding more and more each year but not getting through even a fraction of what I add. There are so many books that sound interesting, but I cannot actually read them all. And I really do think I am at least temporarily getting tired of e-books and audiobooks, as I've been finding physical books a lot easier to get through/focus on lately. I should probably get into the habit of going to the library and checking out physical books instead of just doing e-books. Being able to download a new library e-book anywhere, anytime is certainly convenient, but I am getting sick of reading on my phone.

Hopefully more later.

Do you have a Doctor Who community or a journal that we are not currently linking to? Leave a note in the comments and we'll add you to the watchlist ([personal profile] doctor_watch).

Editor's note: Because of the high posting volume and the quantity of information linked in each newsletter, [community profile] doctor_who_sonic will no longer link fanfiction that does not have a header. For an example of what a "good" fanfic header is, see the user info. Spoiler warnings are also greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Right. Here's another Gen 6 song of doubtful quality and content. Fresh off the "My Little Pony - Official Music Channel", it's Pinkie Party Time. It's not as bad as the Twilight "song" but it still lacks. I don't know what to make of the song credits found on genius.com.

The instrumental track sounds more like preparation montage music, complete with coffee breaks, than an actual party. Like the previous instrumental, it builds up in waves of synthesized snippets of sound bites, like a musical crazy quilt, dies, and starts up again. Here is the instrumental-only version of the song:

The vocalist, if there is one ("Cali Rodi"?), isn't that hot, it sounds like she's inviting us to nap time. I pulled the lyrics off the web, here they are via Lyricstranslate, thanks to Flutters:

(Pinkie Party Time)
Having fun is essential, yeah
It's fundamental, do I have your attention?
(Yeah, yeah)

Friendship is magical, we make it colorful
Anything's possible
Oh... Yeah! Countdown
Five, four, three, two, one!

It's Pinkie Party Time, everypony's gonna shine
Be yourself and share your light
It's Pinkie Party Time, jump right in, you'll feel alright
Together we can sparkle bright

This joy is in motion, a dancing explosion
So join the commotion (Yeah, yeah)
You'll be happy to know all that glitters is gold
Got that cutie mark glow

It's Pinkie party time, everypony's gonna shine
Be yourself and share your light
It's Pinkie party time, jump right in, you'll feel alright
Together we can sparkle bright

Pinkie party time
Pinkie party time
Pinkie party time
Pinkie party time

Celebration should be spectacular!
Because having fun is fun
In fact, having fun is fundamental

It's Pinkie party time, everypony's gonna shine
Be yourself and share your light
It's Pinkie party time, jump right in, you'll feel alright
Together we can sparkle bright

Contrary to what you may have heard before, all that glitters is gold. Alternative facts! In the glorious smartphone future, all will be gibberish and chatbots will rule.

The month is over, and it's time for the Ask The Maker roundup! \o/

This year, we had questions about text work, hair painting, and coloring, and we got some very good discussions and links to old tutorials, plus two new guides!

Tutorials and Guides

I wrote two guides:

Questions

1) Text

People discussed and provided hints about how to get text to look good in 100x100, and a tutorial on the topic was linked:
https://reflexive-verb.livejournal.com/60076.html

2) Hair Painting

We discussed hair painting here in this thread. In addition to the new guide, three old tutorials were linked on this topic:

https://brazen-water.livejournal.com/28862.html#cutid1
https://absolucion.livejournal.com/10805.html#cutid1

Thank you all so much for being a part of this community!
