I was just in the middle of 3 Windows updates when the computer informed me of a hard-drive error. That I should back up all my stuff and then get the hard drive repaired or replaced. In the meantime I shouldn't turn the computer on anymore, but I did it anyway, because I had more stuff to back up. Now everything's safe except my e-mails.
A friend gave me some thingy that can access the hard drive without having to turn the computer on. The thingy needed to be connected to the motherboard, so I opened the tower and first I dusted the whole thing. Whoa, so much dust! Anyway, the thingy didn't work, so that's when I turned the computer on anyway and it was still working. Not only that, it was even back to normal speed. I was hoping the dust was the only problem and now solved, but then the computer informed me of the hard-drive error again. And connecting to the internet made it slow again.
And this is why saving my e-mails is still on the to-do list. Because internet is required for accessing my e-mails and internet makes the computer slow. But why exactly do I need to be connected to the series of tubes to get to the mails that are on my computer?
Anway, newest development: At first I didn't properly pay attention to what Outlook told me in safe mode, just assumed it wasn't working there. When I was in normal mode, I did pay attention: I needed to repair Outlook.pst. After that didn't work, I tried to do it in safe mode and it worked. Opening Outlook in safe mode worked too, so then I could start saving my e-mails. Finally! Now I only need to manage to get through all these mails that I'm saving one by one. Heyyyy, only nearly 4300 - I can do that!
