A review of mostly the screenplay with just a bit of the movie.
I really liked the script. And the movie was good too. The great thing about reading a script instead of an actual book is that you get a faithful reproduction of what you've read.
When he was at costums and said that there's nothing edible in the case, why did Newt put his hand over the breast pocket in which Pickett is?
With these short descriptions it can get a bit confusing. I'm still not 100% sure what exactly is happening in the paragraph that starts with "A sudden series of bangs at street level".
Thanks to the movie I finally understand what these words were trying to describe, yay!
Too many characters meeting in one scene! Maybe I can't count Newt, because we've already been introduced to him, but he's in the scene, so he sort of does count, because he encounters the others for the first time. And there we meet for the first time his future wife Tina (unless Jo dares to change things from the charity Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them), Mary Lou and Jacob. I guess this also bothers me, because things are happening so fast - we've also already been introduced to Graves and Grindelwald. Screenplays take all the fun out of the thoroughness you get with books.
Oh, Nifflers can squeeze through locked doors? That's a new piece of information, wasn't in the charity FB.
Ooh, Tina is from the MACUSA!
Huh, movie!Queenie is cuter than I thought she'd be. Bit unnecessary, she was cute enough in the script.
"You think differently." says Queenie about finding Brits' minds hard to read. I watched the movie in German and wonder if the script was changed or if it was changed in the translation.
Whoa, Graves is a seer?
Wow, Newt's case is pretty cool on the inside! I was worried that his animals weren't treated well in there.
After reading about the creatures, it was pretty nice to see them in the movie. They were a joy to behold!
And after the movie I finally know what that creature on page 154 is supposed to be. It's a dung beetle! Aha, the chapter images clearly were designed together with the movie.
Huh, the Graphorn seems to have changed a lot from the charity FB.
Grindylows floating through the air? Is that a typo or are they not water demons anymore? Maybe Jo meant fairies/pixies/Billywigs?
In the movie were those blue ones I saw in the case Billywigs? Or pixies?
The Nundu has changed a bit too.
I find it amusing that we get a new creature called "Obscurus", because the fictional publisher of the charity FB is Obscurus Books.
What was that in the Central Park pond? How would a water creature get out of the case and into the frozen lake anyway? My sister thinks it was the Erumpent and I'm slowly warming to the idea. Erumpents do like water holes (although there was no mention of them submerging) and have the means to get into a frozen pond. Hm. One of the 3 questions I'd like to ask Jo about FB is what animal that was.
As a fan of the Penguins of Madagascar I'm very amused that Kowalski is going to the Central Park Zoo!
Huh, it seems easier for the Erumpent to get into the case than it was for smaller Jacob.
At least it's not that easy in the movie.
Argh, the hated sound-before-picture transition (apparently called "pre-lap", I should try to remember that), here it is in script form. I hate these sort of cuts, because they can be so confusing for a moment. Don't fuck with me!
Hey, it's Gemma Chan as Madam Ya Zhou!
Oh, an Obscurus killed the Senator? And I thought it was Grindelwald. Maybe he has one?
Ooh, very interesting concept, this Obscurus! So Credence is an Obscurial - the Senator did insult him. ...Or not, if no Obscurial has gotten older than 10. Although... nah, that info is just a distraction, it's probably Credence. Funny that Mary Lou managed to adopt a wizard!
What a scary thought that if things had gone differently, Harry could have been an Obscurial!
Oh, Newt was thrown out of Hogwarts - that's a change from the Charity FB!
Trying to figure out Graves. He seemed okay at first, but from the promo stuff I had gotten the impression that he's a bad guy. I guess he's a Grindelwald fan and is disappointed that Newt isn't one too. He seems creepily fascinated with Obscuruses, probably wants one to help Grindelwald.
Oh, it's a parasite! I thought it's a part of the Obscurial.
Oh, Queenie works at the MACUSA too! Hm, it's probably the largest employer in the city.
So I guess being talented, but not skilled, in Legilimency means that you have no control over it and automatically constantly hear people's thoughts.
Bad timing for this thought, but: Aren't there rules for Legilimency? I mean, it's a bit intrusive to keep reading people's minds, so are there courses for natural Legilimenses to learn to control that power?
Huh, that's an interesting way to execute people.
What a useless spell that can't keep a door from being opened by kicking it!
Graves can heal Credence's cuts without a potion or a wand?
Gah, don't you dare play with Credence! Poor baby has gone through enough.
Yeah, suuure, only one creature is still missing. What about the Billywig?! They're not native to the US. And by Newt's reaction when he saw one flying around Jacob's building, it was one from his case.
Ooh, a goblin who's glamorous, nice.
Argh, Jacob and Queenie are so cute! But it bothers me that we have 2 ships developing here. It's too neat!
What, Modesty is the Obscurial?
How satisfying to see Mary Lou die. Now her kids are free.
Hee, love the shrinking Occamy!
No, that was not everything, that's not the truth! WHAT ABOUT THE BILLYWIG? There's at least one still flying around. It's not a native species, so that could mean trouble. And you don't want to make Muggles notice, do you? So what about that Billywig?! That's my 2nd question for Jo.
Whoa, Modesty was adopted, although she still has family!
What, Mary Lou adopted an Obscurial and a Squib?
Modesty is afraid of Credence? So he's the Obscurial after all!
Hahaha, I love how Newt gives Tina the case and she hands it off to Queenie who passes it to Jacob.
I didn't expect Credence to die. :o(
Grindelwald?! Didn't see that one coming. So what happened to the real Graves? That's the 3rd question to which I'd really like an answer.
Johnny Depp?!
But what about the photos? The memories are erased, but several people still have pictures showing the same weird things.
Aw, I didn't expect Jacob to forget his adventure. I wanted him to be in the other movies!
At least Newt's still working at the Ministry - that wasn't changed from the charity FB.
Oh, Jacob wasn't completely Obliviated! So there's hope the quartet will be back. :oD
