Argh, they neither had the same model as I previously had (I know, that would have been too much to ask) nor anything similar (God dammit!), so now I might have to get used to a very different monitor! This is not good for my sanity. If I want everything to be displayed at the same size as I'm used to, I have to select a lower resolution - but that makes things blurry! So for a clear picture I need to keep the standard resolution - which makes everything too small! The images are too small, the standard fonts look too skinny, and I'm feeling more miserable than this probably warrants.
So out of desperation I did some math (my old monitor's screen was 1050px and 29.7cm high, therefore my new 1080px-high monitor's screen needs to be 30.55cm) and then almost got stuck when I wanted to figure out what the screen diagonal of a 1920x1080px monitor with 30.55cm screen height would be. I know it would have involved conversion of units and the theorem of Pythagoras, but that's as far as I got. Luckily I sometimes use Wikipedia to translate words and when looking up "Bildschirmdiagonale", I found a table that saved me from calculating. So I need to find a 25in monitor. I've checked some electronics-store websites and 25in monitors are quite rare. :o/
