I was a bit worried that I wouldn't get my July layout done in time, but the making one layout a month thing is finally back on track. I'm in the mood for Photoshopping and CSS again. \o/

I'm trying to make a layout for a different fandom every month, so I'm tempted to just start new layouts, make one for Sherlock, make one for Ashes to Ashes. But I shouldn't since the point of this excercise it to get layouts finished that I started ages ago. So Sherlock and Ashes to Ashes will have to wait.

And for this month's layout I finally found a picture that's good enough to make a header from it \o/. Until now the layout's connection to the fandom was a bit too vague. Because the layout was inspired by the BBC's page for Life on Mars, but apart from that there was nothing very LoM-y about it.

Just watched the German dubbed Sherlock 1x01.

Let's start with the episode title. Ein Fall von Pink (a case [not suitcase but that other meaning, you know ... dammit, how can I describe it?] of pink) they named it, which is an okay translation, but the title's reference to A Study in Scarlet (which is Eine Studie in Scharlachrot in German, Wikipedia tells me) gets lost.

So. As a general rule it's to be expected that you don't like the dub when you're used to watching a show in the original language. Because it's really hard not to compare the voices and judge the translation. Of course sometimes dubbing really can improve a show. When an actor is bad, good dubbing can save the character. Not that any saving was necessary in the case of this show.

Okay, let's get specific. )
