"Sherlock Serienstart-Benachrichtigung"
So there's this nice German website called wunschliste.de (=wish list, because it evolved from a site where you could vote for shows that aren't currently on German TV), it's about TV shows and has this cool feature: you can get airdate notifications.
I just got a notification for Sherlock. \o/

ARD

Nice! I was worried it would suffer the fate of some other good shows and get a ridiculous night slot. Ooh, I'm curious (and maybe a little worried) to find out what voice actors were chosen. Hopefully there will be no reasons to facepalm at translations.

O_O Holy shit, a comment from a stranger! My deduction skills tell me that you came here from [livejournal.com profile] sherlockbbc. Hi! :o)

I know, right. I've recently seen the German dubbed Spooks episode with Rupert Graves and the voice ruined it. It didn't fit at all, it sounded so weird. Inwardly I was flailing and going "Don't let them choose the same voice for Lestrade! >_<".

Ha, yeah, can take ages for shows to arrive here. And some don't even get dubbed, because no channel can be bothered with it. I had decided to wait for the German DVDs, so I still only have seasons 1 and 2 of Doctor Who, because after that the channel dropped the show.

Well, I'm glad they're dubbing, I just wish we could also have the originals.
I'm always trying to make my family and friends watch my shows, but they prefer to watch in German. The good thing is that when you understand the language you don't have to concentrate on reading subtitles and so won't miss the good acting. But I have to say, we have some really great voice actors. I've seen things that were improved by the dubbing.

Doesn't everyone have an obsession with BC's voice? XD

Oh god, that reminds me of a... well, I wouldn't call it problem... a thing we have in Germany. It seems the dubbing companies prefer youthful voices. That's not necessarily a bad thing... unless of course everyone with a fitting voice is unavailable and they have to cast someone else instead. That annoyed me about Supernatural's dub, the voices for Sam and Dean weren't deep enough.

I'm worried the same thing could happen with Sherlock. I'm also worried (because that voice wouldn't fit) that they'll cast for Mrs. Hudson what seems like the only "old woman" voice we have. She's like the old woman voice. Or maybe I'm just noticing her because of Dawson's Creek. Man, I disliked that show, but I kept watching it with my friends, because it was a way to spend time with them.

Holy shit, I just checked a dubbing info site and Sherlock's already on it! Ooh, let me see, let me see. I recognize some of those names, but can't put a single voice to any of them. Good thing there are links to their other projects. Hee, I love this kind of stuff, I'm in my element here!

Hm, Sherlock gets the same voice as Charlie from Lost. Haven't watched that in German for ages, need to get my DVDs out. Just looked at the other voices BC got and dammit, I shouldn't have, because I found Charles Rettinghaus listed. His voice is like chocolate! Do want.

Trying to find a role that I recognize in the list of John's voice actor's projects. Ash from Supernatural, that's hilarious. I don't remember his voice (I guess I'll do a bit of DVD watching tonight), but just the thought of Ash=John is funny.

Ooh, Rupert Graves gets the same voice he had on Wallander. Dammit, I actually zapped into that Wallander episode, but I can't remember what the voice sounded like. But it's okay, if I want to know what his voice sounds like, I'll just check my Harry Potter DVDs - he's Lupin. Oh and apparently Detective Stabler from SVU... hm, I think I approve.

Can't find a familiar role for Molly's voice, but judging by previous projects it's a young voice. Will have to check my DVDs. ...I should probably make a list.

Mrs. Hudson looks good, it's not the old woman voice, that much I can tell. I'll have to check a 20 years old (Holy shit, time flies!) X-Files episode.

Ah, Mycroft gets the same voice as Anthony Head. I think I approve!

Can't remember what the voice they chose for Donovan sounds like, but it's the same one as Anna Espinosa from Alias had, so I'm excited to find out.

Sadly no Moriarty in the list.

It will be on ARD aka Das Erste. Their logo is a bold 1 in a circle.

Ah, just looked at the site again. They added more info! More reasearch for me. And I only just started with Lost. Haha.
fueschgast: Sherlock[personal profile] fueschgast on June 3rd, 2011 08:54 pm (UTC)
I'm having far too much fun with this.
So I just looked through my DVDs. Hee, on the Lost DVDs there's an ad for Hitchhiker's Guide. Hm, Lost isn't helping me determine if Tommy Morgenstern for Sherlock is good. Obviously the role is lacking posh, so I can't tell yet. But I remembered that Charlie almost died by strangulation once, so I'm tempted to say that qualifies TM for Sherlock. XD
Bernd Rumpf would have been awesome! XD

I don't really approve of Sebastian Schulz for John. Just doesn't fit. OMG, I just saw that he was Sam from Clarissa Explains It All. How did I not recognize his voice :O? Still doesn't fit, but amuses me. Oh god, all this voice actor casting would make for great crack fics. John comes home via ladder through the window, Sherlock greets him with "Hi John." *guitar chord*. I wish I could write.

Yeah, so I think I approve of Lestrade's voice.

Oh, that wasn't actually a 20 years old X-Files episode, just 10 years old. I don't have S7-9 as DVDs yet, so I had to check my video cassettes, heh. Anyway, approving of Mrs. Hudson's voice actress.

Hm, yeah, I think I like the voice for Donovan.

So, the new info:

Anderson: Jack from Lost and from Torchwood, also Steve from Coupling. Hehe.

Angelo: Teal'c! Angelo never said the word indeed, did he? :o(

Hee, more Stargate: Anthea's voice actress dubbed Teyla.

Mike Stamford = Arthur from Merlin, lols. Also Lost's Hurley. ...Dude! And a whole lot of other roles I recognize and that make me facepalm, to be honest. Miscast much?

Sarah is Buffy the vampire slayer! \o/

Amanda = Ai from Cat's Eye. Excuse me while I flail from childhood flashbacks, heeee.

Looks like most of the initial info required me to look up the voices, but everything additional is familiar and good/amusing.
And looks like they got some actual Chinese voice actors for the Chinese characters.

Ooh, the blind hostage didn't get the old woman voice but unstead the voice of Battlestar Galactica's Laura Roslin. Niiice! She'll get to tell us that Moriarty's voice is soft (or "sanft", as it'll probably be translated, hee).

Hahaha, our dear Jim Moriarty with the voice of Ron Stoppable ♥, NCIS's McGee (also CSI's Greg, Torchwood's Ianto and Spider-Man - the man is everywhere). Are they trying to make me adore Jim even more?

Ms. Wenceslas = Laura Holt from Remington Steele, I approve just because.

Re: I'm having far too much fun with this.
I hope you did at least partly die a good death XD! I think it's probably a really good choice. When I'm thinking of Ron Stoppable levels of enthusiasm of that voice, I can actually see Jim's face. I don't know how he's gonna do scary (since that voice actor seems to dub good guys, mostly), but I have faith that it'll be good. Actually that choice could be pretty helpful! You know, to keep people from suspecting that Jim from IT is Moriarty, because that voice is associated with good guys.

Ooh, yes, soft voice, I always wondered what exactly that meant. I mean, as far as I know it could mean 3 things or a combination of them.
1. not loud
2. caring tone
3. not croaky

If I wasn't so shy I'd ask over at [livejournal.com profile] sherlockbbc what people think it is. I think #3 is a given, but the thought of it also being #2 is such a good one! I wish we could see Moriarty when he was talking via the hostages.

Re: I'm having far too much fun with this.
Isn't it! One day I went on an icon collecting spree, because I wanted a Moriarty icon. But then I ended up with so much icons that I couldn't decide which one to use. I wanted that beautiful and creepy icon, but I also wanted something that shows Jim's silly/adorable side. That problem was finally solved when I realized that I have ridiculous icon space - I can just have 2 Jim icons. \o/

"McGee is the cutest thing since kittens and cotton candy" XD ...but Abby is even cuter.
Ha, yeah, I had no clue that Jim could be Moriarty, I just thought it was a continuation of the "Molly has a crush on Sherlock" story. I thought the point of Jim was to make Sherlock jealous, although Molly's anger seemed real and why would she be so angry if she wasn't serious about Jim? Dammit, that reminds me that I should post the rest of my reviews. I only haven't yet, because I was waiting for a friend to comment on the first review. Which is silly, I mean, if she hasn't watched the other 2 episodes yet, she'll be smart enough to not click the spoilery links.
Anyway, yeah, actually that wasn't Molly tricking Sherlock into anything, that was Moriarty fooling Sherlock ...and Molly, but that was just incidental. I really keep wondering why via Molly.
Oh, scary!nice Jim, I love you. I'm assuming the kid also got to hear his voice, didn't sound old enough to read (although I have to admit, I suck at age-guessing). Would Jim be nice so the hostages would keep it together, stay in a state in which they could deliver messages? Would it be to make it more scary when he got actually scary? Like when he suddenly went "That's what people DO!". Hmm.

Oh yes, a real pain. Even on the internet I'm shy. I thought that - since this is different from the real world - I could be different, but apparently not. Oh well, it is a bit better. I'm getting into conversations with strangers here :oD, which would never happen in real life! One of the advantages here is that I don't have to answer immediately but have the time to think about it and put together a proper answer.

Re: I'm having far too much fun with this.
Oh god, The Blind Banker. I didn't even notice all those things were piling up! What I also didn't notice (the first few times I watched the episode) was where the title came from. Sometimes I'm really doubting my intelligence. Or maybe I should doubt my observation skills instead. I clearly lack those.

I can't wait to see Molly find out about Jim. That's gotta be interesting, I wonder how it will change her. And if it will change how Sherlock treats her.

Ah, yes, fandom ♥! I haven't really contributed anything to my fandoms in some time. I used to make icons and other graphics (lost my inspiration now and in a way it felt too competitive [but that's probably just because I have self esteem issues]), but there's still that to enjoy what others offer.
I've seen some beefy fandoms, but I'm sure it depends in which corner of the internet you are hanging out. I used to hang out in the Nick-Stokes-loving part of CSI fandom, where most people seemed to dislike Sara because she was stealing Grissom's attention, which was meant for Nick. Or something. And apparently there are places for Muse fans where there isn't as much beef as on the official board! But I still prefer that board, because it's not all beef-stirring trolls - there are nice, smart, funny people there. Fanfic & gossip aren't allowed. Hey, I almost hadn't joined [livejournal.com profile] sherlockbbc because of all the fic! I mean, nothing against fic, but when I looked at that comm there was such an overwhelming amount of slash. Sometimes I hate shipping. I hate it when it's all there is to find in a fandom, when I just want info and discussions and stuff.

Ha, I wish I could write a review for everything I watch. But I want to do them properly, which is too much work, so I end up not writing them. Only the most important fandoms get reviews.

I think I broke my icons. The Jim icon I uploaded some days ago isn't showing up in my icon list :o/. Have you tried turning it off deleting and on uploading it again? Yes, I have, didn't work.

Okay, moving my reply up here before my layout really does break.

Hm, yeah, Harry interacting with Sherlock would be interesting. But I think I'm more interested in seeing her with John. I'm wondering how exactly they don't get along and hope that it's not that bad. I mean, when it comes to certain topics, I don't get along with my friends or family. But if it's an avoidable topic, everything's fine. So maybe John won't shut up about Harry's drinking.
Gah, '09movie!Irene, didn't like her very much. Actually, I hated pretty much the whole movie.

This equating sex with love thing *sigh*, you'd think people don't have friends or family. Where does that come from? There are so many different kinds of love, I wonder what makes sex so special. Is it something society teaches us? I don't think so, but maybe I'm blind to it (or I can't remember at the moment, I have a bad memory). Or... well, sex seems pretty important these days. Maybe it's the overrepresentation of it that makes people think it's the best thing there is. It used to be so different, no talking about sex and doing some things was forbidden, so then there was a revolution and we were all free, yay! Problem with this is that now it's the other extreme. You can do who/what you want, but if you don't it makes you weird. It's like if women were weird for having babies, because it's not feministic.

I think I might be a bit subtext-blind. So even if there is subtext (apparently people guessed from the books that Dumbledore was gay), it's entirely possible that I miss it. I can watch/read with slash goggles, but I tend to not take anything shippy that I get from it seriously. Maybe because of the following problem:
Do you ever feel weird for shipping couples that aren't couples? Sometimes I'm feeling guilty (Guilty! As if these fictional character would know what I'm making them do in my head!) when I get shippy thoughts about some characters. As if I'm intruding, being a voyeur (well, that's more for actual ships), making them do things they wouldn't do. Though I'm not even writing fic! And the people are fictional, dammit!

Sometimes I think my scary is broken, because a lot of things that people find scary, I don't. And then something scares me and I'm relieved that it's not broken \o/. I can't tell yet if I find ACD's Moran or Moriarty scary, because I'm not that far in the books. I only started reading thanks to the show. I'm so glad that I have found something good pass the time until season 2 :oD. Fandoms with history are awesome!

I think what I find so appealing about Moriarty/Moran is that, in the fics that I've read, Moran is depicted as sort of the keeper of Moriarty's sanity. That and the domesticity. To see the domestic side of the criminal mastermind is interesting.

You wrote Claire, that reminds me of how, when I started watching Lost, I thought that Claire's name was Clara, because the pronunciation of the r sounded strong enough to me to be a separate syllable. Okay, back on topic: Clara. It makes me want to facepalm at myself, but for some reason I'd really like Harry and Clara to get back together. I'm shipping characters we've never even seen! WTF?

I really, really want to see a show/book/movie with the male and female lead practically being 'soulmates' with how close they are, but they are NOT in love.
Yes, god dammit! Yes!

Ha, I know, right. As if it's so easy to tell who's hot for which gender.
Almost evil Dumbledore was shocking.

I'm reading all of them. And wouldn't that take some research to find - without reading every story first - which stories were referenced in the show! I'm currently halfway through The Musgrave Ritual. There's the wall-shooting, haha. I love those character bits and for me there weren't enough in the first stories. There was only the case, the main characters didn't feel real enough.

Sorry, I haven't saved any of the Moriarty/Moran fics and I can't even remember any bits of the stories that could make them searchable.

I like me some Well-Intentioned Extremist characters, but because we knew a different Dumbledore it was pretty scary. But it did show very well why he became the way he was. Backstory, woooo!

When I first read a Scandal in Bohemia I was in a grumpy mood and all "Why does it always have to be about marrying for the girls?". But when I reread it, I noticed how fun this story is.
Ah, changes. I wonder what it will be like watching this show when I know the original stories. The danger of that is usually that they'll change something that I liked and wanted to see (or I'll think I know who did it, when actually that's something they changed). I do have faith, though, that they'll keep some fundamental things. Like Irene, that she's not a villain and that she pwns Sherlock.

Have I talked about names yet? I've thought about it so much that I can't tell if I've actually typed it or not. It's like every character in the books is named John, James or Mary. I wonder if it was like that in reality. I know those are common names, but that common?
And since I'm talking about the books: Everyone seems to have servants, that's weirds me out a bit.

Random icon ahoy!
Dammit, I'm trying to reply, but I'm having trouble putting thoughts into words. I'm much more in a mood for collecting everything that I know about Sherlock season 2. Everything that's been said, every set picture I've seen, everything I've infered from these things. I want it all in one place, so I can look at it before/during/after season 2. Stupidly it's all over my diary, which means a lot of looking through there. And Sherlock people's Twitter accounts and also the Muse board's Sherlock thread. Dammit, why didn't I collect it in one place from the start?

Aaaanyway, to (try and) get on topic: It almost makes me a bit sad that Irene being female and outsmarting Sherlock isn't as interesting as is was when the story was published. Damn you, gender equality! :oP

This servant thing makes me wonder if only richer people got to be characters in those books or if the servants got really shitty pay.

The only Jane Austen book I read is Emma. Don't remember much about it, how gracefully the language was used. It was so beautiful! Almost made me feel guilty about language usage nowadays.

I just finished The Greek Interpreter. Mycroft :oD! For some reason Sherlock being referred to/addressed by his first name made me really happy.
Hm, I remember only one story with a not-that-Moran. Can't remember the title, but I remember the landscape I imagined, and there was a lake. Haha.
Speaking of names: I was really amused by one of The Resident Patient's baddies's name being Moffat.

1. I found out that HTML comments (stuff that's written in the HTML - in this case the entry - but isn't visible) work in LJ entries! \o/

Just noticed that Mark Gatiss changed his Twitter picture again. That's Irene, isn't it?
I'm sorry, I don't understand what you mean by "it's still a huge thing though, that a WOMAN manage to trick him". I'm feeling stupid.
Mark mentioning Irene on his Twitter put me in a good mood. I don't know where this confidence comes from, but at the moment I have faith that they'll get her character right.

Hm, I should learn more about what society was like in that period, maybe that will make me understand it better.
Oh god, imagine tea would become as unusual having servants got. O_O

Ha, if only we had the time to talk like they did back then. You'd need 3 tweets to write what you can write in 1 tweet with today's language. And I don't think I could ever give up expletives. Because sometimes you just need to vent, dammit!

Hee, ACD = the Doctor, I like that idea. "___ is a Time Lord" is my favorite theory anyway. Ooh, the Doctor is finally also a doctor! :oD

I bet Mark Gatiss is cackling when he uploads new Twitter pics. It's what I would do.

My brain is a silly place of silliness. I just thought if there's a man who outsmarted Sherlock and a woman who outsmarted Sherlock, there should also be a kid who outsmarts Sherlock. Ooh, wouldn't that be a cracktastic thing. Jim could think the same and he'd steal eggs from Irene. Combining the genes of 2 people who outsmarted Sherlock should produce a kid that's able to outsmart Sherlock. And then there will be cackling.

Oh, I love those abbreviations, it would be a really sad world without them, haha.

Love him! Love the Godtiss, build him a shrine.
Oh god, right now I also want season 2 really very badly. Trying to digest the new spoilers. I haven't even seen that much, dammit! I wish I could come down from this excitement. Fucking DDoS attacks. Good thing I'm also getting notifications via e-mail - I have your comments here, I don't need to wait until LJ comes back to write replies. But I'm now writing them in a txt file. I'll post them as soon as LJ works again, although I'm not sure how well that will work. Last night (I'm writing this at noon on the 28th), just when it turned midnight, LJ came back and I finally got to add Mark Gatiss's Merry Christmas tweet to the spoiler entry - but then it was gone this morning when I edited the entry again! I'm keeping the newest updates in the same txt file now. I wonder what's with these attacks. Who has a problem with LJ and for what reason?

Yeah, I think all in all it's a good dub. Just mainvoices-wise it fails. But really, it was to be expected. Of course they wouldn't have gotten someone whose voice is equally delicious as BC's!

But really, they could have tried a bit more. Dammit, I'm really hating on our tons of youthful voices. What's wrong with deep voices? And I'm wondering who ARD have at their disposal. I'm guessing they're the ones choosing which dubbing company to use. If they have a choice - maybe they're only working with one. Do you happen to know how that is done? I've listened to the 1x03 commentary, but I don't remember any Rickman impression. I remember having seen one one YouTube, that was hilarious. XD

You mean Jo dreamt up an alternate reality? Argh, if only I could write! There's so much fic in that!

Do you know where exactly in the commentary BC's Rickman impression is?
I can only remember that they talked about things on ties. And about clothes and not mentioning brands. Oh, and the "Why don't you marry him/her." thing which came up 2 or 3 times. XD

Ah, thank you. Just watched it, ahahaha. ♥

But now we seem to have run out of topics. :o(

True. :oD

No, haven't ever watched Legend of the Seeker, but I've heard of it. Well, not really. All I've heard of it is the name. No idea what it is about. About Quidditch maybe? :oP

I just watched the commentary from the point you named until the end. They talked about how the Andrew West plotline was modelled after The Naval Treaty. Ooh, when I read the Naval Treaty I noticed the similarities.

I know, right. I bet S2 will make me go crazy with all the "Ooh, I recognize that, but I can't remember from which story!" haha. Dammit, why do there have to be so many stories? No, I'm not complaining, that would be stupid! It's good that there are so many stories, gives me something to do and to look forward to. But looking something up in actual books (as opposed to easily searchable stuff like pdfs and such) is a pain in the ass and almost impossible for me. I'm amazed I had no trouble with the Pottermore Magical Quill clues! I remember that one clue was about in what chapter something happens. I actually managed to find it in the book! I looked through my cheap pdf version, but couldn't find it there. I mean, I found the passage, but I couldn't find out the chapter!
