On June 29 my mom and I took a coach to Berlin and stayed in a nice hotel across from the airport.
There are city names on the outside walls, but we couldn't find Edinburgh among them.
They had keycards there. For the elevator, your door and the electricity in the room. Kinda cool, but a bit more info on how to use them would have been nice. Took us ages to figure out that after the little lamp glows you had to take the card out again and then push the doorhandle.
I would have loved to take the bathroom home.
It's so niiice.
On the 30th was our flight.
D'oh, security found a pair of scissors in the pencil case in my backpack. Oh, right, scissors can be weapons. How could I forget. Since we already checked in our suitcases I had only 2 options: let them send it home to me for 8 Euros or let them throw it away. 8 Euros is a bit much, so... *sniff* poor scissors.

Ooh, shiny!
How neat!
Last bit of mainland.
Great, Britain!
First roundabouts of this vacation.
We approached over the Firth of Forth and got a nice view of Inchkeith.
11:20 we landed in Edinburgh.
Took the Airlink (This bus has space for luggage, yay!) into the city and I spotted a Pret A Manger. I fell in love with Prets when I was in London last year. And earlier this year I found out there there are 3 Prets in Edinburgh and I wrote their addresses into the notebook I carry around when I'm traveling. I saw the Shandwick Place Pret. And a bit later that on Castle Street. Ha, only one left and that one was on Hanover Street, which was close to Princes Street where we got off the bus.
So we went to that Pret and bought sandwiches and coffee. Pret sandwiches were one item on my to-do list for this vacation - so I could check off that one. We lunched in Princes Street Gardens.

Nice view here.
The weather was a bit weird: when the sun wasn't behind a cloud it was too hot in my jacket and when the sun was behind a cloud it was too cool. Unfortunately the the sun disappeared behind a cloud and came out again all the time.
While I sat outside some more and endured the indecisive weather my mom booked us a Highlands trip for Sunday.

We took a bus to Ocean Apartments and had it all to ourselves at first. :oD
Ocean Apartments and in the background Inchkeith.
...This pic made me angry at myself when I looked at it later. I had Inchkeith in the background! Pretty big! This was a good thing, but not once did I remember that I had a better camera than last time, not once did it occur to me to zoom in on the island!
We arrived at Ocean Apartments about 15:00. Which was when we should have been able to check in, but they told us we'd have to wait 15 minutes.
At least reception area is nice and there was free coffee.
15:15 we went to our apartment (which was, as requested, the same as last year
) and at the elevator we met a guy who worked there. He guessed our apartment number correctly - we suspected he was headed there. Yes, he was - a cleaner had reported the apartment door wasn't closable and he fixed that.
Alright, the door was working again, which was nice. What wasn't so nice was that the cleaner seemed to have forgotten to clean. I wonder why we had to wait then if it wasn't because the cleaner was still working.
My view is still the same - minus the site fence and the swans.
After resting a bit we went back into the city around 17:00.
I bought postcards and for myself a book as a souvenir - 2 more things checked off my to-do list. And then it got ridiculous: we had to go to the Floral Clock. That was another thing on my list, but I didn't want to do it all on our day of arrival!
Ooh, impressive!
But dammit, now I'd done 4 of 5 things on my to-do list!
Extreme close-up.
And a full shot.
We had coffee and fries in Princes Street Gardens.
Hoping to get fries.
And then we bought food in Asda. I got myself some Müller Crunch Corner Toffee Hoops yogurts (We don't have this flavor at home! :o( ). And with that I had done all the things on my Edinburgh vacation to-do list on the first day.
Double rainbow! And that was the second one I'd seen that week.
