Question about Irene
Okay, I brought myself to ask Moffat, but I didn't get a reply. So before I have to overcome my shyness and fear of making myself look stupid (Hey, maybe the answer to this question is clear to others and I just fail to see it because of my lacok of observation skills!) in front of [livejournal.com profile] sherlockbbc, I thought I'd ask the flist.

Is Irene a baddie or not?

As much as I love me some bad guys, I hope Irene isn't one, because in the book she wasn't. See, that's what happens when you read a book before its adaptation - if there's a change, you won't be able to deal with it. Maybe that's why I even fail to try and see it from a "she's a bad guy" perspective. Well, I did try, it just didn't work very well. I'm almost, pretty sure (because if was really sure, I wouldn't ask your opinions) that Irene only did what she did because Moriarty threatened her.

Ah, thanks! Irene makes more sense to me now.

I didn't really see her as a baddie. Sure she's manipulative and likes to have the upper-hand, but she's not plain evil... I think she's more of a 'problem' to Sherlock that a proper enemy.

But then again, maybe it's because, like you, I have the character from the book and the beautiful episode of the Jeremy Brett series in mind, so I fail to see her any differently. I don't really know. :)

Yes you do! Maybe I'd have loved the new version of this story more if I didn't love this one so much. But I grew up with Brett!Holmes, so... =)
