Done with my The Hobbit reread  
  • How stupid do you have to be to risk giving away where you are by talking to a dragon?! That totally could have gone wrong.

  • These fugly pictures! My version of the book has these stupid drawings. Worst of all Smaug. WTF?!
    Does this look anything like the description?!

  • I flipped through my copy of The Fellowship of the Ring, because I couldn't remember the name of the dwarf (names of related dwarves tend to have things in common, I wanted to find out which of the dwarves in The Hobbit is his father), and happened to land on the page where Bilbo talks about the chain armor he'd gotten from Thorin. Heh.

  • What I think is really well done in this book is that the writing makes it really clear that everything is far away, everything takes long. You can almost feel it like the character can.

  • I had forgotten that the story continues after Smaug's death.

  • Oh god, 3 dwarves die! There's death! There will be tears! Goddammit, I don't like crying in movie theaters. I'll just not watch part 3, okay?

  • And now I have to rewatch the LotR movies. Argh, why do I find it so hard to find the motivation to watch movies?

Well, yeah, it sort of is - but still not canon! The illustrator's style just weirds me out. His people are weirdly shaped.

Pfft, didn't read like a children's book. I mean, narration-wise it did, but the story that was told wasn't that children's-booky. There's something wonderful about the word wacky. XD
