Watched the extended edition of An Unexpected Journey today.
  • Ah, I found Peter Jackson! He's one of the dwarf who flees, the one who shouts "run for your lives".

  • I think the "it is sad [...] how friendships between peoples can be lost" wasn't in the theatrical version, because in the theater it was weird how the Elves refused to help when Smaug attacked. Now it makes sense.

  • After we see Gandalf for the first time, Bilbo is at the market and I swear there's Sean Astin with a baby.

  • OMG, the hedgehog's name is Sebastian. My brain went from Johnhog to a Sherlock AU where everyone is a hedgehog. MorMor just got cuter.

  • And again I thought in the German dub they gave Gloin the same voice actor as Gimli, but this time I checked synchronkartei.de and it's not the same voice actor. I'm a bit disappointed, but on the other hand there's no reason, because they do sound alike.

  • This time I watched with [livejournal.com profile] keep_counting's idea in mind that Kili is actually a cisfemale (which I swear just made her sexier). And then I see Kili wink at an Elf woman, hee. Now I'm totally for a dwarf getting a bit of a romance side plot.

  • Heh, the dwarves totally taking over the dinner with the Elves, and throwing food.

  • Haha, naked dwarves in the distance having fun in the fountain. I'm a bit sad we didn't get to see them closer.

  • The scribe goblin still amuses me.

  • Oh, Gollum, my precious! Urge to make lots of icons rising!

  • Why isn't Sting glowing during Azog's attack? Or is it just hard to tell because when it glows, it does so in blue and they're currently in pretty blue light?

ETA: Have I mentioned that the noise Smaug makes reminds me of Lost's smoke monster? XD

Ooh, we downloaded this ages ago but I've yet to watch it!! :D

idea in mind that Kili is actually a cisfemale
What? How? Why? This is confusing me.

I went through Nana's Hobbit tag and actually it's a reblog, but I got the idea from her, so.
dwarves are androgynous towards the masculine side of the scale. Lady Dwarves often pose as male, and their physiology does not exhibit sexual dimorphism. Dwarven women often take up a trade just like dwarven men. They travel and have people address them using male pronouns. Any of the company could be ciswomen and we might never know it, because they don’t present themselves as women to other races.

So, if one considers that Kili might actually be a lady…

I'm not sure I like the idea tbh, wouldn't it be kind of awful if we had a female character we didn't know was female because she's said to be male?
I just basically hated the characterisation of Tauriel and the silly love triangle and I don't think any headcanon can make it better...

I know, that sucks, but just for shits and giggles I like to imagine that there's at least one more female than we know about. It's more my personal bit of denial than a theory for everyone to have more female representation.

I still haven't seen Desolation of Smaug, to be honest, so I can't say anything about Tauriel's characterisation. I can grumble about silly love triangles though. One of these days female characters will be able to exist without getting saddled with a romance plot.
