You guys, The Casual Vacancy cast!
BAFTA Award-winning actor Michael Gambon (Quirke, The Singing Detective) is set to play Howard Mollison, owner of the Pagford delicatessen, with Julia McKenzie (Notes On A Scandal, Shirley Valentine) playing his wife Shirley. Howard’s son Miles is being played by Rufus Jones (Bill, W1A) with his wife Samantha Mollison being played by Keeley Hawes (Line Of Duty, Ashes To Ashes). Rory Kinnear (Skyfall, Penny Dreadful), who recently won the Olivier Award for Best Actor for his role as Iago in Nicholas Hytner’s production of Othello at the National Theatre, is to play Barry Fairbrother, Keeley Forsyth (Coronation Street, Emmerdale) is playing Terri Weedon with newcomer Abigail Lawrie cast as her daughter Krystal Weedon.

Monica Dolan (Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa, Sightseers), who won a BAFTA Award for her portrayal of Rose West in Julian Jarrold’s Appropriate Adult, will play Tess Wall with Simon McBurney (Tinker Taylor Soldier Spy, Last King Of Scotland) playing her husband Colin Wall. Richard Glover (A Field In England, Sightseers) has been cast to play Simon Price alongside Marie Critchley (In The Flesh, Emmerdale) playing his wife Ruth Price. Michelle Austin (Secrets & Lies, Another Year) will play Kay Bawden.

I don't like Michael Gambon, which is only because his Dumbledore was unlikeable. But this Michael Gambon/unlikeability association that I now have makes his perfect for the role of Howard.

Keeley Hawes! \o/

I've pictured Avigail Tlalim as Krystal, so I'm slightly disappointed that she won't play the character, but at the same time I'm amused that Krystal will be played by an Abigail.

Julia McKenzie, ha! What's funny about this is that I've seen her in the same show as Avigail (The Town, because Andrew Scott). Bit sad that she'll play an unlikeable character now.

I was happy when I started reading this because I love Gambon (not in HP, but in everything else I saw him in) and McKenzie, and a big yay for Keeley :D But then, meh, Rory Kinnear, I don't get what all the fuss about him is about and I didn't picture Barry like that at all. I was hoping more personal faves would be in it, but that was always going to be wishful thinking. It still sounds like a pretty solid cast!

I'm worried though because three episodes sounds a bit short. I wonder what it means that the first names to be mentioned are Gambon and McKenzie. Is it because they're more well-known or will Howard and Shirley get a lot of screen time? I wonder... I've been meaning to reread the book for a while, I think I'll do it now!

I'm so amused that Keeley will be another thing I watch. It's probably time to start a list. I could even add Ashes to Ashes, because although it was the first thing I saw her in, it's a continuation of Life on Mars and so she invaded that fandom too ^^.

Yeah, it's weird. I know the name Rory Kinnear, but I couldn't tell you why that is. And I also didn't picture Barry like that, but I hope Rory can make it work. I've become more positive about him since I saw a photo of him with Andrew Scott yesterday. My brain is weird.

Yeah, it could be because the actors more well-known. But also as far as I remember Howard and Shirley were the main antagonists.
