Wow, only took me less than a month to finally make a post about this! My probably rather boring account, here you go:
On August 10 was our meet-up and I went there in my Touriarty outfit, including iPod (my phone can't play music) and chewing gum.
I wore earrings that I had bought and adapted just for this costume.
When I got off the tram and walked the rest way to meeting place, in front of me I saw a girl who had gotten off that tram too and she had a Union-Flag bag. Because of the flag and because she walked in the same direction, I wondered if she was going to the meet-up too.
When I arrived, there were
dieastra (who I had invited, although I didn't know if she's a Sherlock fan, I only know her from
doctorwho and that she was from Dresden) - I recognized her right away (which was helpful in recognizing the group as the Sherlockian meet-up) from photos I had seen on her LJ -, her friend (A ginger! ASJKHAJAFSKLJFS) and Union-Flag-bag girl, hee!
Gradually more people arrived, until we were 10. All female - boys, where are you?
Boring, meaningless statistics! Most attendees seemed to be going to university or used to - this gave me some outsider feelings. Most were in their 20s. 2 random things I noticed: only 3 of us appeared to wear make up, 5 wore glasses. Even more random: besides me there seemed to be only one person wearing earrings. This I noticed because my apple earrings were part of a set and I had no use for the strawberry and cherry pairs. I wanted to ask if anyone wanted these earrings, but I didn't dare.
Clothes-wise I was the only one easily identifiable as being there for the meet-up. No one wore any Sherlock T-shirts, but they had accessories: buttons on backpacks/bags, a necklace with a Sherlock-Holmes pendant, a shirt with a red double-decker bus on it.
Outside a sort of café we put 3 tables in a row, so we could sit together. I discovered the awesomeness that is mochaccino. Coffee and chocolate syrup - these 2 were meant to be together!
At first our conversations were a bit restricted by the tables. The table I sat at seemed a bit cut off from the other 2. Later the conversations spread out. We didn't talk about Sherlock itself, our topics were Sherlock-related ones, such as The Hobbit, Cabin Pressure and Doctor Who. But also about Dresden, being Saxons and our accents.
Remember how I had put up #believeinSherlock posters all over the campus and then had hoped that someone would see them and post photos on Tumblr? That's how I found the 2 Dresdner Sherlockians who then planned this meeting.
One of them sat to my left. On Tumblr she's of the fangirlier type, but in real life she was normal, fortunately. Further away from me sat a girl who - I only found out when I talked with her (next time we really should start with introducing ourselves) - was the other girl I know from Tumblr.
Then there was the girl who, like me, had sent in photos for the Lemons & Landmarks project. We got to that topic, because 2 others talked about Großräschen, which I recognized from making place names for the project. So I asked them, but the photos didn't come from anyone at the meeting.
dieastra showed us pictures of herself with actors from all the conventions she's been to (mostly Stargate conventions, one picture with David Tennant and some with John Barrowman). *envious* I want to go to a convention too. Dammit, I'll need to save up more. Muse-concert trips are expensive enough. And I don't only need the money for myself, but preferably also for my sister (or whoever is willing/persuaded to accompany me). And then I'll need to keep up with convention information. Oh god, I'm already feeling the stress.
At some point one of the girls I know from Tumblr and her friend left. The rest of us stayed and I would have liked to ask everyone's name, if they have LJs, what their contributions to Sherlock fandom are. But with 2 people less I was still too shy :o/. I should just be glad that I wasn't too shy to join the conversations.
20:15 we had to leave, because the café was closing. The other girl I know from Tumblr, Union-Flag-bag girl,
dieastra and her (ginger \o/) friend went the same way, so I had the chance to talk with them. Ha, I thought I was now safe from the question about my job, but Union-Flag-bag girl asked me. I even managed to not beat around the bush, just gave a straight-up answer. \o/
Other Girl I Know From Tumblr noticed my Muse bag and we talked a bit about the band. :oD
On the tram I got to talk a bit about Andrew Scott with Union-Flag-bag girl.
That was a fun meet-up! Not only did I successfully hang out with strangers, in real life I got to talk about fandoms! And the girls were so nice!
