[livejournal.com profile] alias_chick's visit - day 4
Excavations in the foreground (they found a burnt cellar that, combined with finds in the vicinity, points to a blaze having happened in the Middle Ages), one of our destinations for the day in the background (also a victim of fire, but much more recently and now rebuilt).

[livejournal.com profile] alias_chick was amused (and I was surprised, because I'm not often in this part of the city) to find a Canadian steakhouse, because she's Canadian.

Speaking of which: There was this one weird time where I was talking about a certain tree and because vegetation here and across the pond can be different, I wasn't sure if [livejournal.com profile] alias_chick knew the tree. I was trying to remember what the tree was called in English, and when I did, it was quite a facepalm moment. Of course as a Canadian she would know maples!

The Acadamy for Fine Arts is in a cool building.

The Frauenkirche was destroyed in 1945, when Dresden was bombed. The dark blocks are originals reused in the reconstruction.

That's where we're going.

Interesting way to get fresh air in, but keep other things out/in.

Note the router. Yes, the Frauenkirche cupola has WLAN.

Ooh, the academy has a nice green courtyard.

View of the Zwinger's Crown Gate.

The City Hall Man.

The panometer and the gasometer.

Oh hey, I didn't know the police HQ had a green roof.

Blinged-out church.

The cross that was at the top of the church in 1945.

Turtles names on the art academy.

Hausmannsturm (the oldest still existing part of Dresden Castle, the lower parts of the tower were started around 1400) and the cathedral.

Interesting vehicle!

Heh, found a beach on the square that's across the street from Frauenkirche's square.

We went halfway across the city to the funicular.

The view from the top station wasn't so great. But back a the bottom station we saw a bat! :oD

We walked to the suspension railway.

Empty driver's cab.

Nice...

...view...

...up...

...here.

The top station's stairscase.

You can see the stripe (by holding my camera my arms were in the same position most of the time) of sunburn I got from the day before. Also, rhubarb juice isn't bad.

Our most iconic bridge.

One of these days I'll go and take picture of all the prettily graffitied transport-services buildings and boxes. This one should show Friedrich Schiller, because transport-services graffiti tends to be location-related and this one is at a square named after Schiller.

That's a sweet little graffiti that you can find all over the city.

At the Panometer with its 1756 Dresden exhibition.

Something about pest, perfume and flea traps in the foreground. In the background hangs the Sistine Madonna (the original resides in the Zwinger).

A bit of the 360° panorama painting of what the city looked like in 1756, viewed from Dresden Cathedral's tower. It was with sounds and light. This photo shows beginning nighttime and the Hausmannsturm.

Nighttime is done with black light. I'm so shiny!

Later my sister came over and talked with [livejournal.com profile] alias_chick about Australia. Since she had studied there, [livejournal.com profile] alias_chick could help with some things my sister wanted to know for her work-and-travel thing.

Pretty pics! I've never been to the top of the Frauenkirche. I really must do that. I was once up there when they were still rebuilding it.

Turtles names on the art academy
LOOOOL
Now I am kinda worried that in a few years or centuries the kids really will only remember these names for the turtles!

Did you know there is a website that shows you the the places of all the DREWAG graffitis?

http://www.drewag.de/de/drewag/unternehmen/werke/dg_werke_graffiti_projekt.php

I also have a calendar with some pretty pictures. I also really love them! We should go together on photo safari. We have some here where I live, they look so realistic. I love how the painter always tries to find some things from the neighbourhood.

Did you walk from one railway to the other on top or on the bottom? On the bottom it is a very short walk but I don't even know if it can be done at the top! Isn't there a valley in between?

Ooh, thank for the link! I wasn't aware that some of them are DREWAG!

Yes, we should do that!

We took the bottom route to the suspension railway, because I didn't know if there's a way at the top.
