Meme taken from [personal profile] ruuger. I miss posting about fandoms, but I have such a crappy memory and for this year especially, so I filled this out with the help of the few LJ posts I made this year.

Your main fandom of the year?
Whoa, the latest season of Doctor Who didn't air in '19?! Huh. Well, despite 2020 having Doctor Who in it, it wasn't a very Whovian year for me. I'd say that makes Alias (due to the rewatch, capping [This show seriously lacks cap galleries, hmph!], thorough discussions with [livejournal.com profile] alias_chick and endless iconning) the main fandom.

Your favorite film watched this year?
I'm still not much of a film person, I haven't been to a movie theater in a bit over a year and I don't think I've seen anything new elsewhere. Unless you'll let the recording of the Hamilton musical count.

Your favorite book read this year?
Still a frustratingly slow reader (I'm starting to think I might have attention deficit disorder and if I took something against it, it might stop my mind from going off on tangents like trying to figure out floor plans and whatnot), so I haven't read many books. The only one I'm aware of reading this year was Jo Rowling's The Ickabog. It wasn't bad, but to me it was really the wrong year for something dystopian and Jo having gone TERF didn't help either.

Your favorite album or song to listen to this year?
Hamilton!

Your favorite TV show of the year?
Since I already named Alias, I'm gonna declare this question to be about the fave new one, to which the answer is The Mandalorian. I was gonna say "there can never be enough Star Wars", but then I remembered the announcements for all the new shows and I doubt I'll be able to keep up. I haven't even gotten my hands on Clone Wars and Rebels yet!

Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
The Supernatural finale. I still haven't gone into detail about it because I'd have to do it either from memory (which, as mentioned above, is crappy - and I want my critique to be thorough) or with the help of a rewatch (I'm not ready to relive the disappointment).

Your biggest squee moment of the year?
Probably Ewan McGregor being confirmed to come back as Obi-Wan.

The most missed of your old fandoms?
Doctor Who, although it's still running. The fandom on LJ died/migrated to other platforms, the show's been a bit wobbly in story quality, the hiatuses are longer and the seasons shorter. But at least dwstills just started back up again, so now the show is at least partially back in my life. ♥
Also Muse, although the band also still exists. I just don't like that they've abandoned rock.

The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to?
His Dark Materials, because Andrew Scott and Lin-Manuel Miranda in the same project. But what if I like the show and then will want to read the books, which most likely would result in being annoyed at the show for not adhering to the books enough?

Your biggest fan anticipations for the coming year?
Overdosing on Star Wars. I doubt I'll watch all 11 of the new shows/movies, but who knows - after all I didn't think I'd be interested in The Mandalorian until I read the 1x01 spoiler.

Yesterday The Leaky Cauldron retweeted

His Dark Materials “You have no idea what it’s like to be cooped up in an air balloon with Andrew Scott.” - @Lin_Manuel on #HisDarkMaterials Season 2.

Whoa, whoa whoa, Andrew Scott in a project with Lin-Manuel Miranda?! I stopped following Andrew's work a while ago and I've managed to avert obsession status with Lin, so this is the first I heard of it.

And I was a bit confused why Leaky would retweet that. But that cleared up when I watched the Comic-Con panel for His Dark Materials S2: The Cursed Child's Jack Thorne is on that project.

Jane Tranter's name rang a bell. Apparently I remember her name from Doctor Who Confidential (But not DW itself? At least it's not listed on her IMDb page.) and/or Jekyll.

...and I thought I could handle that I'm not there. I thought I'd be participating in Unlocked, the convention on Tumblr for people who aren't going to Sherlocked. But instead I'm a bit depressed because of all the con fun (including meeting Andrew Scott) I'm missing and don't feel like doing anything Sherlocky.

  • Sleep schedule is very messed up again. And today I spectacularly overslept. Not that I had to be anywhere, it's just annoying that I can't get up at a reasonable time.

  • Yesterday we got the first Muse song of this era: Psycho. It's not awesome, but it's good enough. It's nice that they finally turned that riff (which is at least 16 years old) into a song, but Psycho is somewhat repetetive and feels as if it consists mostly of the riff. And the lyrics could be a bit better, although message-wise I like them. But Psycho's definitely gonna be fun live, looking forward to it.

  • Of course this day would come: the Sherlocked Con announced more guests and one of them is Andrew Scott. Argh, fuck my life! Which sort of moves the topic back to Muse, because when my mom declined going to a gig of the upcoming little Muse tour, she said that we'd better spent money on traveling to the UK for an Andrew Scott play. *sigh*

Feels like I've been looking through Tumblr tags for hours (and I don't track that many). I swear the last time I checked Tumblr was only the day before yesterday!

I'm not sure why I'm so annoyed by pictures of Andrew Scott at fashion shows. Maybe it's because I just don't get what's supposed to be interesting about such shows. Maybe it's because due to my disinterest I don't get how anyone else could be interested in them and so going to them feels as though it's just for self-promotion. Maybe it's because I want to see Andrew do something productive instead. It's not that I'm begrundging him a break, he absolutely should take one. It's just that I don't need to see him taking that break.

... (except a bit of Twitter), so I only found out via CNN that Pride is nominated for a Golden Globe! It's making me feel terribly, uncomfortably flaily. I'm too tired for this kind of excitement. Oh God, tomorrow I'll have a lot of scrolling to do in Tumblr's Andrew-Scott tag.

Which is sort of a cool thing. I say sort of, because - as I suspected (due to tabloid articles about it having been all over the AS Tumblr tag yesterday) - it's about him actually having a role in the new Bond movie. Mofftiss will no doubt be happy. I on the other hand am not a Bond fan. I'll have to watch another Bond movie! It'll be my third, if I remember correctly. Heh, from MI5 in Six Degrees of Assassination (No spoilers! Haven't got my hands on it yet.) to MI6 in Bond. Andrew is friends with Ben Whishaw, I wonder if they'll have any scenes together, heh.

I still want Andrew to be on Doctor Who one day, but if it never happens, I'll still have his new new audio drama 6 Degrees of Assassination - it's with Freema Agyeman :oD! And I just found out that Hermione Norris is in this too, hee! So I really want to get my hands on this. Unfortunately it's from Audible: they have these stupid, impractical .aa files and I have yet to find a way to convert it into mp3. I don't want to listen to it in their crappy player!

"I've done quite a lot of radio drama in the past - I feel very passionate about it actually - but I think it's sometimes quite overlooked as a medium. It's got a reputation slightly for being something for older listeners."
If you want younger listeners, you should have been on Cabin Pressure! Argh, why has he never been on Cabin Pressure?! It would have been so awesome!

Let me interrupt my so far unsuccessful attempts of productivity today for this message: Last week or so my mom was being her awesome enabling self and encourgaged me to go to the German premiere of Pride, so I could meet Andrew Scott (Have I ever mentioned how awesome it was when I showed her interviews of him and she finally understood why I fangirl this man? She went from being "Is that really necessary?" to "Let's do this!".). But unfortunately we found out that the premiere is in Hamburg, which is less practical to get to from here than the hoped-for Berlin. Also, we couldn't find out if Andrew would even be at the premiere.

Turns out Andrew will be there. Argh! What a missed chance! And now it's probably too late for my mom to take the day (this Thursday) off. And our cat isn't well anyway, so I can't ask her to leave the cat home alone. FFFFFUUUUU, Andrew Scott is going to be in the country and I won't get to see him! But I will see German fans squeeing about having met him and I'll keep going "I could have been there!" about it. D:

Where I am: too far from Hamburg
How I feel: disappointed
